Home Remedies for Athlete Foot


Athlete's foot is a fungal infection on the foot, caused by fungus called dermatophytes. These fungi live on dead cells of the skin. This infection occurs mainly between the toe fingers. It is a contagious skin infection.

Symptoms of Athlete's Foot

Following are the major Athlete foot symptoms:

1. Itching between the toe fingers
2. Redness and scales on the toe
3. Burning sensation, blisters and inflammation on the toe

Causes of Athlete's Foot

Following are the major Athlete foot causes:

1. Moist and damp conditions
2. Sharing socks or shoes with an infected person
3. Through pets as they carry the fungus on their fur

Natural Home Remedies for Athlete's Foot

Following are some of the effective home remedies for athlete foot:



1. Make a solution of water and white vinegar - one part of white vinegar to four part of water; soak your feet for 20 to 30 minutes twice day. It is an effective treatment for athletes foot.
2. Sprinkle some baking soda between your toe fingers and rinse your feet after 15 minutes. It is also good natural remedy for athletes foot.
3. You can also rub tea tree oil between your toe fingers as it has very good antifungal properties.
4. Soak your feet in an antiseptic mouthwash for immediate relief from itching or burning.


Athlete Foot Treatment and Advice

1. Do not eat baked products and products that have high yeast content in them.
2. Avoid alcohol, sugar, cola drinks and grains.
3. Take a healthy and a balanced diet, avoid processed foods.
4. Include fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables in your diet.
5. Always try to keep your feet dry and clean.
6. Use antifungal powder rather than antifungal cream.
7. Always wear cotton socks.
